# Claude Team vs Enterprise: How to Choose

Claude Team caps at 150 seats with flat pricing. Enterprise adds SSO/SCIM, audit logs, and metered billing from 20 seats. Here is how to choose.

Claude Team suits teams up to 150 seats that want a flat per-seat rate; Claude Enterprise adds SSO/SCIM, audit logs and customizable data retention for organizations with compliance requirements, from a 20-seat self-serve minimum.

The choice is less about how many people you have and more about your risk profile: what security, control and billing you need. Below are the facts per plan, the concrete triggers that make Enterprise necessary, and a third path many businesses overlook.

Anthropic shows individual plans in euro for European customers: Pro is €15 per month with annual billing (€18 monthly), for example, and Max starts at €90. The Team seat prices below are the euro amounts Anthropic's pricing page shows a European visitor, excluding VAT. Enterprise is the exception: Anthropic quotes that tier in US dollars even on the European page, and Enterprise via sales supports multiple currencies. Checked on 5 October 2026; Anthropic changes pricing regularly, so verify the current amount and currency live at [claude.com/pricing](https://claude.com/pricing) before you sign.

### Claude Team vs Enterprise in short

The two plans run on the same models. The difference is governance, security controls and billing:

- Claude Team: from 2 seats up to 150, a flat-rate seat fee, a predictable bill. Claude Code and Cowork are on every seat.
- Claude Enterprise: from 20 seats (self-serve) or 50 (sales-assisted), a seat fee plus metered usage at API rates, and the heavier security controls: SSO/SCIM with automated user provisioning, audit logs, customizable data retention.
- Both Claude Team and Claude Enterprise: no training on your data by default, and Claude Code plus Cowork included.

You will sometimes see "5 seats minimum" quoted for Team elsewhere; Anthropic's own help page states 2 as the minimum.

### What is in Claude Team?

Claude Team is built for smaller groups that work with Claude without setup overhead. You get shared workspaces, admin control and a flat rate per user.

Pricing has two levels. Standard is 18 euro per seat per month billed annually, or 21.04 euro monthly. Premium is 90 euro per seat per month annually, or 105.23 euro monthly, with more usage per seat. Claude Code and Cowork are on every seat, whichever level you pick.

For most teams up to 150 people that mainly want to work more productively and have no strict compliance requirements, Team is the right and cheapest choice. Source: Anthropic's [Team plan help article](https://support.claude.com/en/articles/9266767-what-is-the-team-plan).

### What does Claude Enterprise add?

Enterprise is about control and compliance, not more AI. On top of what Team offers, you get:

- SSO and SAML for central access, and SCIM to provision and de-provision users automatically.
- Audit logs and a Compliance API for anyone who has to demonstrate who did what.
- Customizable data retention and customer-managed encryption keys.
- HIPAA readiness with a BAA, and network controls such as IP allowlisting.

These features are not there to impress; they are the reason an organization with a security department or a regulator needs Enterprise. If you do not need them, you are paying for a lock on a door you never use.

In practice this means the following. SSO and SCIM (automated user provisioning) connect Claude to your identity management, so a new employee gets access automatically and a leaver loses it at once, without manual work. Audit logs and the Compliance API provide the evidence an auditor or client asks for: who did what, and when. Customizable data retention and your own encryption keys determine how long conversations are kept and who can decrypt them. Anthropic's only documented geographic control is US-only inference; if you need data to stay in the EU, that is an Anthropic-sales conversation or, more realistically, the API in your own EU cloud (the third path below). Enterprise costs 20 US dollars per seat per month at Anthropic (annual only), the one tier Anthropic quotes in dollars even on its European page, plus usage at API rates. ### Is Claude Pro enough, or do you need Team?

Claude Pro is a single-user plan. It is not a business plan: no shared workspace, no administration, no central billing. The moment more than one person works with Claude and you want to manage that, the real choice starts at Team. Pro sits outside this decision.

### The triggers that mean Enterprise, not Team

Choose Enterprise as soon as one of these applies:

- You have to enforce login through SSO or SAML.
- You need SCIM to manage accounts automatically as people join and leave.
- A regulator or client requires audit logs or an auditable trail.
- You process data that falls under HIPAA or a BAA.
- You need your own encryption keys or US-only inference.

If none of these apply, Team is almost always enough. The rule of thumb: let your risk profile make the call, not your headcount.

### Pricing reality: flat seats versus usage

Here is an important difference the comparison tables often miss. Team is a fixed amount per seat: your bill is predictable, and you scale usage by tier. A Premium seat gives 5x more usage than Standard; individually you do that with Max, 5x or 20x more than Pro. On Enterprise, the seat fee only covers access: all usage of Claude, Claude Code and Cowork is billed separately at standard API rates, with no included token allowance and no per-seat usage limit. Heavy use drives that bill up, so set spend caps and monitor usage. Predictable versus flexible-but-variable is a real trade-off, not a detail.

### A third path: the API

Team and Enterprise are seat plans: you pay per person who logs in. For work done not by people but by software, there is a third path that uses no seats: Claude directly through the API, in your own environment.

That is how it runs at CIRFOOD. Their tender tool runs on Claude Sonnet 4.5 through the API in their own Google Cloud project, not on a seat plan. That brings the cost down to about 0.55 euros per tender, against 225 to 300 euros manually, roughly 400 times cheaper. Read the [CIRFOOD case](https://www.whatsnext-ai.com/cases/how-cirfood-scaled-from-4-to-45-tenders-a-year-without-adding-headcount). For high-volume automated processes, the API often makes more sense than any seat plan. ### How to decide

Run the decision top to bottom:

- Do you hit one of the Enterprise triggers above? Then the choice is made: Enterprise.
- If not, and you work as a team up to 150 people? Then Team is the right place.
- Does your work run mostly on automation rather than people at a screen? Then look at the API instead of seats.
- Always check the current prices and seats at claude.com/pricing before you decide, because Anthropic adjusts its plans regularly.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the difference between Claude Team and Enterprise?

Both run on the same models. Team offers a flat per-seat rate for teams up to 150 people, with Claude Code and Cowork on every seat. Enterprise adds SSO/SCIM, audit logs, a Compliance API, customizable data retention and HIPAA readiness, and bills seats plus usage at API rates.

### How much does Claude Team cost?

Anthropic shows individual plans in euro for European customers (Pro €15/month with annual billing, Max from €90). Team seat prices shown to a European visitor are: Standard 18 euro per seat per month annually or 21.04 euro monthly; Premium 90 euro annually or 105.23 euro monthly, excluding VAT. Check the current amount at claude.com/pricing.

### How many seats do you need for Claude Enterprise?

Anthropic's help page states a minimum of 20 seats self-serve and 50 seats with sales assistance. Team starts at 2 seats and runs up to 150.

### Is Claude Pro or Enterprise better?

That is not a fair comparison: Pro is a single-user plan, Enterprise is for organizations. If you work as a team, the choice is between Team and Enterprise, not Pro.

### How is Claude Enterprise billed?

Enterprise combines a fixed seat rate (at Anthropic, 20 US dollars per seat per month, annual only, the one tier quoted in dollars even on the European page) with usage billed at API rates. Set spend caps and monitor usage, because heavy use drives the bill up.
