# AI Automation

AI automation uses AI to run business processes that involve language, judgment or exceptions. Those are the tasks that fixed, rule-based systems cannot handle. Classic automation only follows predictable, structured steps.

## Definition

Where traditional automation and [RPA](https://www.whatsnext-ai.com/glossary/rpa) follow a fixed script, AI automation understands context: it reads emails and documents, determines intent, and handles exceptions without every variant being coded in advance. So a process can grow without hiring more people at the same rate. To automate a process, see [AI Automations](https://www.whatsnext-ai.com/ai-automations).
