AI Engineer / LLM Engineer

We build production AI applications that go beyond a demo: systems where LLMs, RAG, API integrations, documents, databases and business processes come together. You sit between software engineering and AI, you understand retrieval, structured output, security and the real limits of AI in production, and you reach for a controlled workflow when that beats a fully autonomous agent.
What you’ll do
- Build AI applications in Python.
- Develop LLM integrations, RAG systems and AI workflows.
- Connect AI systems to APIs, databases, documents, email and CRMs.
- Design document processing, retrieval, embeddings, chunking and metadata.
- Work with structured outputs, function and tool calling, and controlled workflow steps.
- Build human-in-the-loop processes where AI assists rather than acts blindly.
- Weigh in on architecture, security, scalability, error handling and maintenance.
- Test and evaluate AI output for quality, reliability and usefulness.
What you bring
- Proven software development experience and serious hands-on work with LLMs or AI apps.
- Strong Python and a track record of shipping applications to production.
- Understanding of RAG, embeddings, vector databases, chunking and retrieval.
- Experience with APIs, databases and backend development.
- Able to test, evaluate and improve AI output.
- Solid grasp of security, privacy and data handling.
- Comfortable with technical uncertainty and reaching a practical MVP fast.
- Good English and/or Dutch. HBO or WO level.
Nice to have
- LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel or DSPy.
- Vector databases like Qdrant, Weaviate, Pinecone, pgvector or Chroma.
- FastAPI, Docker, PostgreSQL, Supabase or cloud platforms.
- Tool or function calling, MCP or agent frameworks.
- Document parsing, OCR, PDF extraction or multimodal AI.
- Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini or open-source models.
