Workflow automation uses software to run multi-step business processes, moving data between tools and triggering actions, with little or no manual work.

## Definition

AI raises the ceiling on what’s automatable: beyond rigid, rule-based steps, agents can read unstructured input, make judgement calls and handle exceptions. The result is repetitive work, intake, routing, document handling and follow-ups, running on its own while your team focuses on the rest.
